Colorado Springs has five military installations within El Paso County with the United States Air Force Academy located in northwest Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Mountain Air Station located in Cheyenne Mountain in southwest Colorado Springs, Fort Carson is located in southern Colorado Springs, Peterson Air Space Base is located in east Colorado Springs and Schriever Space Station is located near Peyton, Colorado. Buckley Space Force Base is located in south Denver, while the Pueblo Depot is located in Pueblo, Colorado.
The Pikes Peak National Cemetery is a 374 acre Department of Veteran Affairs National cemetery located in southeast Colorado Springs. The cemetery was officially dedicated on May 25, 2018 and the first burials took place on November 1, 2018. The cemetery will serve burials for more than 95,000 Veterans, their spouses and eligible family members.
